January 30th Blog

Yes, January is almost gone.  This is my January 30th Blog.  It is a sunny day outside and a bit cool.  I went for a short walk outside.   Talked to a man who was at my next door neighbors house to grind some stumps.  He asked what old cars I had.  He knew a man with other old Jaguars.  Said he would give me the contact number.

Yesterday, I got the 60 minute timer at the local hardware store.  Wanted to get two (typical ADHD thing as that we loose and misplace things).  Will use the timer doing tasks so I stay focused during the task, two would make it easier for me.  Therefore, I also now have a lost list of things I have but are missing or misplaced.  I hear from the YouTube’s on ADHD this is common.   However, I have been misplacing things all my life.  I used the timer while working on refining my plans for the next weeks.  Learned I may have to deal with the following issue.

The Project Killer issue

“The Emotional Cycle of Change.” Kelley and Connor’s emotional cycle of change (ECOC) includes five stages of emotional experience, which we will explore here (with slight modification based on our experience). Regardless of the change you choose to make, you will experience this cycle. You can plot new relationships, new purchases, new jobs, and new neighborhoods on the ECOC, and it’s always the same.  Sometimes the highs are higher, and sometimes the lows are lower; sometimes the cycle is shorter, and other times it’s longer, but in all cases, you will experience this cycle when you decide to make a change in yourself.  This is out of the 12 Week year book.  Indeed, this slump rings true for me right now.

So how to fight it!

The book suggests five skills to develop and use. They are as follows:

  1. Vision: A compelling vision creates a clear picture of the future. It is critical that your business vision aligns with and enables your personal vision. This alignment ensures a powerful emotional connection that promotes a sustained commitment, and continual action.
  2. Planning: An effective plan clarifies and focuses on the top-priority initiatives and actions needed to achieve the vision. A good plan is constructed in a manner that facilitates effective implementation.
  3. Process Control: Process control consists of a set of tools and events that align your daily actions with the critical actions in your plan. These tools and events ensure that more of your time is spent on strategic and money making activities.
  4. Measurement: Measurement drives the process. It is the anchor of reality. Effective measurement combines both lead and lag indicators that provide comprehensive feedback necessary for informed decision making.
  5. Time Use: Everything happens in the context of time.  If you are not in control of your time, then you are not in control of your results. Using your time with clear intention is a must.  Thus the timer as that I do not have a good time sense!

Thus, I now have a timer with a bell that goes off that can help control my focus and time.

So today I am pondering this

So I need a place to start.

January 30th Blog – Do I start here?
or do I start here with skill development?

I guess this is the ADHD question.  Will I just watch a movie instead and put off my projects.   Well, I will figure it out.
