Life in our Market Centric World

This blog post concerns life in our market centric world we live in today.  Ads are everywhere now days except maybe this website.  We are bombed with information, misinformation, disinformation and crazy ass ads.  We all see ads marketing everything.  The ads designs enter our brains and trains us to buy products, some products we really don’t need.  Thus we support sports teams and politicians via marketing.  Marketing works by bombing us with brainwashing, desire or repetition and even subliminal images.  Right now we are getting more than our fair share of this garbage.  I am sick of it!!!!!  So I am shutting off the news and only listen to music from my library.

Life in a Market Centric World
Not just a menu, it is a sales ad also!

I don’t get enough web traffic for Google to run ads on this website so I can earn revenue from them.  As I stated in several posts about bad management and having to listen to Duck Face Von Shitzenpanz and his crew of creepy crap spewing minions.  We are flooded with stuff that wastes our time and energy now days both before and after the elections.  You can’t even talk to a minion without getting what aboutisms, have you heard and other time wasting verbal junk.  Gag me!  Remember, unlike a TIME LORD we can not go back  in time!

A Definition of Marketing for our Market Centric World

Marketing is the process of attracting customers to a companies products to generate revenue. A well-thought-out marketing strategy allows a company to research, promote, distribute products or services.  They hopefully can sell the products for a profit.  Marketing promotes brand awareness to potential customers.  Therefore, we became a market based economy in theory.  One of the early psychologist left his job in education and went into advertising.  We get the repeats and other types of psychology manipulations from them now.  My second masters is in counseling, I sure learned a good bit of psychology.  Dark Triad types anyone?

Opps! it happened to the News!!!! It became Market Centric World also!

Short and sweet, starting with the TV program 60 minutes.  News became profitable.  Thus news shows ratings became profitable for stations.  Under President Ronald “Ray Gun” Reagan – he repealed the FCC “fairness Doctrine” most likely to sell more soap! News did not have to be factual anymore, he blasted news and information with his Ray Gun!  Therefore and consequentially, we have bad media stations like Fox News and NewsMax.  We have tiny minded opinion types with names like Tucker and Rush with a ton of copycats.  Even worst now are the talking heads shows.  They are enough to drive you nuts.  Think a group of people interrupted by a Blithering Ninny!  You can see this on CNN, MSNBC and so on.  Sure is not what the news use to be!

Then social media showed up.  Will make this simple.  I have seen so much misinformation, disinformation and trolling against those who state facts.  Social media became the sewer of junk ideas.  Just ripe for those who use modern “Target Marketing”.  Read on gentle readers.  Have you been trolled?  I know I have on FaceBook, Instagram and other social media.  I am on BlueSky now.  Yeap, Trolls there also.  At least I can block them!

The path of how we got to BAD news!

The model – How Target Marketing Destroyed radio freedom and now local news stations

But wait, in the 1990’s FM and AM radio stations got format play lists.  Gone were request lines.  Now you see the local news stations following a format also.  I present you the local news format: two big national or local stories (normal of politicians), then murder, child abuse. a bit of weather and some local professional sports teams.  Gone are the days when we had high school sports news.  And there you have it.  Target Marketing and your local news are really gone.  From New York to San Francisco, you see the same format now.  Sinclair news even has their stations repeat the same misinformation stories all across America.  Oh my!

However, this trend did not go unnoticed

The singer/songwriter Mark Germino wrote “Rex Bob Lowenstein”, a song about an independently minded radio DJ who rebels against being given a playlist by his boss.  Here are the important lyrics:

There's a disc jockey in Hartlanberg
Who works at W.A.N.T.
He puts two or three eggs in him
And he's in your car by 6.00 am

He lives for his job and he accepts his pay
You can call and request ‘Lay Lady Lay'
He'll play Stanley Jordan, The ‘Dead and Little Feat
And he'll even play the band from the college down the street
...
Now, one day a man in a pinstriped suit
Took the owner of the station to a restaurant booth
His pitch was simple, “you'll increase your sales
“If you only play the song list we send in the mail.”

He guaranteed a larger audience
Less confusion and higher points
“But your drive-time jock won't get to do his thing.
“Hey he's not half bad, tell me, what's his name?”

Notes on the lyrics – Higher points on radio, television and YouTube = more cost to the advertisers and more income to the owners or creators. Hartlanberg – this means the Heart of America areas Mark was a truck driver.  W.A.N.T means songs you WANT to hear – not Layla repeated 20 times a day! With the disc jockey saying “it does not get better than this”.  I have yet to hear Little Feat on a radio.

The best version is by the country singer and  songwriter Carol Elliott. My question to you gentle readers,  when have you heard “Lay Lady Lay” or Little Feat on the radio or even Sirius?  I sure have not.  Target Marketing was one way to take that darn revolutionary Bob Dylan and friends off the air and out of our minds.

A new Coping Skill for 2025

I would be remiss if I did not offer a coping skill for the year 2025.  Turn off the News, drop YouTube creators and stations that are repeating BULLSHIT.  If their names start with Joe or Lex, most likely they are trolls.  If they have Von Shitzenpanz ranting turn it off – give it a thumbs down. Instead, use your time making friends, gardening, learning new skills.  Make the next four years yours.  Spend your time having fun and not doom scrolling!  Listen to the songs from the past turn off Sirius.  My old music is loaded on my computer.  My friend Rick has 40GB of smooth jazz on his computer.

Dedications

Dedications for Mark Germino may he rest in peace.   Bob Dylan for the “times they are changing”. Carol Elliott whose version of “Rex Bob Lowenstein” was on her record.  This is where I first heard this song.  Steve Salke who told me about “Little Feat”.  His group on Facebook “Stop the Madness” is troll free by the way.  Steve is the moderator and darn good at it!
